Announcing: Conference Call Moving Image
The Skowhegan Alumni Alliance is pleased to present Conference Call: Moving Image. This series of video screenings is curated by members of the Alliance and selected through an open call process to all alumni. Featuring video work by 34 artists spanning more than twenty Skowhegan summers, Moving Image takes place in various spaces in NYC.

NYPL Returns: Winter Session
This past spring, we collaborated with the New York Public Library's Division of Art, Prints, and Photographs to host a series of rare opportunities to explore their expansive visual art resources alongside knowledgeable librarians and curators. The first workshop at The Picture Collection will be Saturday, October 21—sign ups are open now! The next workshop about Fluxus will be Saturday, December 2 and the following programs about Rare Manuscripts and Japanese Photography respectively will be announced in the new year.
Sarah Workneh to End 14-Year TenureAs Co-Director of Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture
The Board of Trustees and Governors of Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture announced today that long-time Co-Director Sarah Workneh will step down in December 2023 after 14 impactful years in her leadership role. Katie Sonnenborn, Co-Director, will continue in her role and the Boards will form a search committee to hire Workneh’s successor.
Skowhegan and Socrates Sculpture Park announces: SkowheganPERFORMS 2023!
Skowhegan, in conjunction with Socrates Sculpture Park, is pleased to announce an open call for SkowheganPERFORMS, a day of innovative performance that will take place Saturday, September 30, 2023. This event will coincide with the opening of the 2023 Socrates Annual, the culminating exhibition of works made by the 2023 Socrates artists-in-residence. Following their lead, the thematic prompt for these performances is “transformation.” Apply by August 21st, 2023.
Ballroom Marfa and Skowhegan Present a Limited Edition By Donna Huanca at the Armory Show.
Ballroom Marfa and Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture are thrilled to announce the release of a limited edition print by Berlin-based artist Donna Huanca. The edition will launch at The Armory Show on September 6, 2023 and 100% of the proceeds will support both organizations. The work will be exhibited at Booth N8 at the Javits Center and virtually on The Armory Show’s Online Viewing Room.
Skowhegan concludes 75th Anniversary Campaign with significant contributions and advancements
Skowhegan exceeds milestones for its 75th Anniversary Campaign with over $21m raised and pledged. Co-chaired by Eleanor Acquavella, Donald Moffett, and Paula Volent the campaign has been the school’s most significant fundraising initiative to date and expands Skowhegan’s capacity to support emerging visual artists from every background.

Skowhegan and the Alumni Alliance are excited to announce the fifth and final exhibition in CONFERENCE CALL: a series of five 2-person exhibitions featuring the work of Skowhegan alumni. Opening on October 12, the exhibition will feature the work of Hetty Baiz (she/her) (A '69) and Jordan Seaberry (he/his) (A '15), and is curated by Alliance member and Skowhegan Alumni & Archives Manager, Paige Laino (she/they). The show will have an opening reception on October 13 from 6:00–8:00PM and will take place at the Skowhegan Office in Chelsea, New York.
Skowhegan announces the 2022 Awards Dinner honoring Byron Kim and the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation & Jack Cowart
Skowhegan will hold its 52nd annual Awards Dinner at Guastavino's on Wednesday, October 26, 2022. Skowhegan will honor artist Byron Kim with the Skowhegan Medal for Painting, presented by artist Glenn Ligon. The Roy Lichtenstein Foundation & Jack Cowart, founding executive director, will receive the Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney Award for Outstanding Patronage of the Arts, presented by artist Carmen Winant.

Opening on September 8, the exhibition Worldbuilding will feature the work of Pallavi Singh (she/her) (A '15) and Jing (Ellen) Xu (she/her) (A '16,) and is curated by Alliance members Danny Greenberg (they/them) (A '18) and Eleanor Kipping (she/they) (A '18). The show will have an opening reception on September 15 from 6:00–8:00PM and take place at the Skowhegan Office in Chelsea, New York.

Skowhegan and the Alumni Alliance are excited to announce the third exhibition in CONFERENCE CALL: a series of five 2-person exhibitions featuring the work of Skowhegan alumni. Opening on August 4, the exhibition will feature the work of Baxter Koziol (A '17) and Molly Springfield (A '06), and is curated by Alliance member Michael Scoggins (A '03). The show will have an opening reception on August 4 from 6:00–8:00PM and take place at the Skowhegan Office in Chelsea, New York.
Announcing “Waterways” with Gwendolyn Kerber and Rocío Olivares for the CONFERENCE CALL series at Skowhegan's New York Office
Skowhegan and the Alumni Alliance are excited to announce CONFERENCE CALL | Waterways, the second exhibition in a series of five 2-person exhibitions featuring the work of Skowhegan alumni. Waterways will feature the work of Gwendolyn Kerber (A '79) and Rocío Olivares (A '18), and is curated by Alliance members Annette Cyr (A '76, '21) and Rebecca Shippee (A '18). The exhibition will open on June 23, 2022 and take place at the Skowhegan Office in Chelsea, New York.
Skowhegan announces CONFERENCE CALL, a series of exhibitions featuring alumni in their New York Office
Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture and the Skowhegan Alumni Alliance are excited to announce CONFERENCE CALL: a series of five 2-person exhibitions featuring the work of Skowhegan alumni that will run from May through November 2022.
The exhibition series will open on May 18, 2022 with the first exhibition featuring the work of Pío Galbis (A '82, '21) and Buster Graybill (A '07) organized by Alliance member and alum, Jesus Benavente (A '12).
