TUITION & FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
About Tuition
Skowhegan’s application process is need-blind; socioeconomic status is not considered. This means that we can provide scholarships to ALL artists who require assistance to participate in the program. We will work with all accepted participants to ensure they can attend. Prospective applicants should not be deterred by the cost of tuition by any means.
Requesting Financial Assistance
The cost of tuition is $6,000 which represents a fraction of the total cost of attending the School. In order to qualify for financial aid, you must complete the financial assistance section at the time of application, otherwise, we will not be able to attend to your necessities. You must submit this information at the time of application including accurate information on income and expenses when you complete your form. Each accepted artist will be offered a financial aid package upon acceptance. Changes to the financial assistance section will not be permitted after you get selected.
Scholarships and Fellowships
Admission to Skowhegan, the awarding of scholarships, and the pursuit of all Skowhegan activities are implemented without preference to race or ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, disability, or age. Fellowships and Scholarships are available for ALL artists admitted to the Program.

If you are applying from the US:
Many BFA and MFA programs based in the U.S. provide tuition support for their current students and some alumni who have gained admission into Skowhegan independently. This support can be applied for in the matching fellowships section within the Skowhegan financial aid form.
Specific opportunities are offered to artists who self-identify as: LGBTQIA+, artists of the African diaspora, Asian/Pacific Islander, Caribbean, Central/South American, or Indigenous artists, artists living or working in the states of Maine, California, Ohio, or Kansas, and artists who are currently enrolled at Cooper Union, Tufts, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. To apply for any of the fellowships available to you, simply complete the financial aid form found in the general Skowhegan application.
If you do not qualify for one of these specific fellowships, don’t worry, there are general fellowships available.
If you are applying from outside the US:
Skowhegan welcomes applications from international Participants. Following the same principles as explained previously, we will help any international applicant who requires assistance, regardless of their country of origin or social and economic status.
Participants from outside the United States need to obtain their visas and cover their visa expenses. Skowhegan provides a letter of acceptance upon request. We also assist international artists with their flight arrangements and offer some travel support for artists coming from outside the United States.
